During this summer, I am planning to get a new laptop for college. Yes I do have one right now but you know what it has to offer? Broken keyboard, cracked screen, gets hot very fast and a 30-minute battery life. So in conclusion, it's now a desktop. Yep, truly an immobile machine. And that is why, as I said, I'm planning to get a new one.
There are 2 choices at hand, the 2015 Lenovo Y50 or the Asus ROG GL551JW-DS71. I haven't found the link for the 2015 Lenovo Y50 but I did found a review and to counter that, I found the link for the ROG GL551JW but not a single review. The irony is not cool (or is it?). And so let us get started with things.
Asus ROG GL551JW-DS71
And so I started off with the Asus ROG. Here is its full specs:
- 15.6" FHD Screen
- 5th gen Intel® Core™ i7 4720HQ 2.6 GHz ~ 3.6 GHz Processor
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5
- 16GB DDR3 RAM
- 1 TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
- 6-Cell 5200 mAh 56 Whrs Battery
- Weighs 5.96 lbs
- Comes with a free Asus Gaming Mouse
It's pretty decent right? Its current price is $1,099.00. Long time ago, these kind of beasts were worth 1.5k bucks. This is also very new and was released early March 2015. If you want to see more, click on the links below.

Next we have the Lenovo Y50 Laptop - 59440654 or the 2015 version. It was recently released thus it is very new and fresh from the tech market. Here are its specs.
- 15.6" FHD Screen
- 5th gen Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz with turbo boost up to 3.6GHz
- NVIDIA 960M 4GB of VRAM
- 16GB DDR3 Ram
- 1TB 7MM Western Digital Hard drive with 8GB SSD
- Unknown battery type but is up to 5 Hours (2014 version)
- Unknown current weight but is about 5.30 lbs (2014 version)
- JBL Audio Speakers
It is pretty identical but it is also very different. Its current prices is $1,299.99. Prices are different in the Lenovo website and in Amazon. Y50's RPM is still unknown and I've heard that Lenovo screens have issues but I don't know what they are. And also, this doesn't have a DVD drive so that's a bit of a downside. Like I said, I haven't found this product on Amazon or the Lenovo website but here's a detailed review made by Andrew Tran:
I am not a pro in computers and its complicated technical specs but I do know the basic and some stuffs. I was going for the Lenovo Y50 2014 at first but then my eye caught the new
ROG GL551JW and made this as my final decision. But suddenly out of nowhere, the new Y50 equipped with the new 5th gen i7 and the GTX960M appeared. My first decision is the ROG and the second is well, the Y50. I have no experience in both Asus and Lenovo products but I do have a friend that has an Asus ROG 17" and it's still top notch. What do you think guys? The Y50 or the GL551JW?
I will update this once I find good feedback and the latest news.
